Open Ground w/ opo, Tropa Macaca, Rudi J, meakusma dj’s

opo

opo plays with music, sounds, images, and DIY technology with a focus on improvisation,
experimentation and collaboration. opo is a member of the Jokkoo Collective, founded in Barcelona in 2017, that explores and amplifies contemporary electronic and avant-garde sounds from the African continent and its diaspora. Responding to their absence within European club circuits, Jokkoo forges connections and spaces where non-hegemonic musical aesthetics lead, opening room for hybrid Afroelectronic experimentation and diasporic narratives. opo is currently studying dub histories, noise, and electronics. They are also strongly influenced by sci-fi, ancestral afro musics, jazz, performance art, and food. opo hopes to subvert hierarchies and binaries whilst learning life skills, most of all love (in) communication.

Tropa Macaca

“We read someone somewhere recently (can’t remember who, sorry) casually referring to Tropa Macaca as the best band in the world and you know what? It’s not an outrageous statement. There’s certainly an argument for it, at any rate. Active since 2006, the Portuguese duo’s lived-in, vegetative (in the sense of organic and of-the-earth not, er, braindead), skunk-drunk electronics are the missing link between Siltbreeze and The Trilogy Tapes (mean that quite literally: they’ve released on both, 2016’s TTT effort Vida being a particular shop favourite). Caçador do Futuro, their new one for DUNNO, found them harnessing more bass-weight and rhythm-gristle than ever before, into two shape-shifting, shut-in tekno sculptures to mess you up proper.”

Rudi J

Michael Crabbe has worn enough musical outfits to know when one fits perfectly, and Rudi J is that.
Analogue dirt and digital fragments collide in a personal, loose take on bass culture that flirts with a fever dream and has sinisterness around every corner despite the wonder and lusty life force pushing it forward. Jazzy and orchestral elements surface like outlined figures in fog. It’s dissonant and spectral but never humourless. Built for sound systems, perfect for a couch, early dubstep ghosts liner.
