Tropa Macaca are André Abel on guitar and Joana da Conceição on synth and electronics. Based in Lisbon, they have been producing music together since 2005, releasing on labels such as The Trilogy Tapes, Wasser Bassin, Qbico, and more. Adamastoso is their latest outing, their first on Meakusma. Both sides of this 10inch mini-album delve into sobering psychedelics, aiming for a path beyond the stars.
A-side Fogos do Invisível is a 16-minute exploration of an almost alien, jazz-like frequency, filtered, coded, and running into itself. When the screen blanks and the blue haze of the moment breaks through undeniably, an accompanying reverie springs to life, like a celebration of the beauty of the absurd.
B-side Vozes do Vento clocks in at almost ten minutes, reprising Adamastoso's intention, this time through an abstracted, worn-out, slow techno groove, almost. Invisible winds may be listening. The futurologists congregate in a bar and take drastic measures.
Adamastoso is further proof of Tropa Macaca’s impatience with convention. Almost minimalist in nature, their music is rich in influence and reference. It perceives life as through a filter. It accompanies and subtly breaks open. Every analytical reflex is submerged.
