Susu Laroche & Karen Willems

Susu Laroche (Modern Love, Accidental Meetings, Purge.xxx – UK)

Susu Laroche makes music like ritual. A filmmaker turned sonic conjurer, she builds performances that feel less like concerts and more like ceremonies — where pounding hand-played rhythms, scorched electronics and her unmistakable voice collide in states of ecstatic release.
Her debut LP Closer To The Thing That Fled (2023) was hailed by The Quietus as ‘ritualistic gothic electro-pop… impressively unorthodox’, while FACT drew lines to Ursula K. Le Guin’s myth-worlds and From Here Till Now heard ‘fever-dream vocals’ defying the shadow. The press may reach for comparisons, but on stage Laroche is incomparable: summoning tension, fragility and ferocity until audiences are pulled into her orbit.

Her work has appeared everywhere from Whitechapel Gallery and 180 Studios to underground clubs and Café OTO, each time bending the space into something darker, stranger, and alive. No two shows are alike — sometimes furious, sometimes intimate — but always charged with the sense that something is at stake.

Alongside her solo practice, Laroche has collaborated with MOBBS on ZERO (Boomkat called it “ancient ritualism between hexed trip-hop and shoegaze”). Yet it is in her own shows that her power is most evident: voice as spell, percussion as pulse, performance
as invocation.

For audiences and promoters seeking music that doesn’t just entertain but transforms, Susu Laroche delivers the unforgettable.
