Mix Mup

Mix Mup came to his name as a teenager when he decided to quit playing classical piano after some excessive days of listening to free-jazz records. From then on he rather spent time analysing every record from his parents collection and conducting experiments with 4 track cassette recorders and mini-sequencers. He is persistently busy adapting and twisting the established rules of musical genres. He is keen on odd, often incidental sounds, but still bound by his desire for the groove. He works his raw sonic materials in the way of a craftsman, with a delicate sense for details. He uses only a minimum of equipment. An approach which takes him, in his own words, to results of higher quality. His first releases for erkrankung durch musique, with a pop-punk-disco-cut-up flavour, date back to the early 2000s – since 2008 he has been appearing more frequently and has shifted his focus away from classic song structures. With his friend and studio partner Kassem Mosse he collaborates in the project MM/KM, which saw its first release in 2012 on UK label The Trilogy Tapes (TTT). Over the past year he produced remixes together with Mosse for the likes of John Beltram, Paul Woolford and Mistakes Are Ok. His last release on Mikrodisko Recordings (Mikrodisko M8 “Drive-By”) was celebrated by many DJs and a new release is scheduled for the end of 2012. – Beware! Besides being a rampant producer, Mix Mup is also a passionate Dj and – not surprisingly – he is also a visual artist.
