Tara Clerkin Trio & Raoul Eden

Looking for a way out of any kind of carnival-related rambunctiousness, on February 12 we are happy to present you with concerts by Tara Clerkin Trio and Raoul Eden at the Galerie vorn und oben in Eupen.

Tara Clerkin Trio are Pat Benjamin, Sunny Joe Paradisos, and Tara Clerkin, three musicians involved in several cult Bristol bands over the years before confidently settling down in their current formation. They are inspired by and borrow from jazz, trip-hop, electronica, psychedelia & minimalism, twirling the non-pretentious strands of these threads together into a trippy green-winged cloak, adorning Arthur Russell and dripping in blue jam. Their self-titled debut LP was released in 2020 and was highly acclaimed. Using looped and layered clarinet, vocals, synth, and percussion, dreaming up atmospheres at times solemn, smokey, and beatific, they are one of the most exciting experimental pop bands around today. They have also released two 12inches on World Of Echo.

Raoul Eden is a French solo guitarist in the American primitive tradition. His playing is deeply influenced by oriental music, Indian raga, and classical lyricism, yet still rooted in dark primitive psychedelic blues. Arabic music has always been present around him and he is fond of Gnawa music and plays guembri (a Gnawa bass lute also known as a sintir, gimbri or hejhouj) in his spare time. He develops both repetitive and ecstatic structures, constructed and luminous melodies, and quasi-improvised free forms, all bordering on an inner journey beyond any kind of reality. His new album “Anima” will be out soon.

Tara Clerkin Trio & Radio Hito

On April 15th, at the Alte Post in Sankt Vith, we are happy to present live performances by the Tara Clerkin Trio and Radio Hito, alongside a DJ-set by Pangea.

Bristol-based band Tara Clerkin Trio use looped and layered clarinet, vocals, synth and percussion, dreaming up atmospheres at times solemn, smokey and beatific. With influences from jazz, acid jazz, dub, trip-hop, psych-pop and ethereal electronica, they are one of the most exciting experimental bands around today. The musical equivalent of being in a state that is neither sleeping, nor awake, Tara Clerkin Trio work with elements both familiar and not, repeating the seemingly illogical into fragmented grooves full of dissociation and engagement. Theirs is re-contextualised pop perfection, turning the mundane on its head, finding fleeting meaning in a relentless approach to their musical means of choice. Their beautiful releases on World Of Echo and Laura Lies In are proof of just that, the dive bar made abstract.

Radio Hito is Y.-My Nguyen, born in France, who now lives and works between Brussels, Paris and Strasbourg. She trained as a printmaker, typographer and classical pianist in France, Switzerland, England and the Netherlands. Her visual and sound work revolves around the text in its different shapes and existences. Her Voce Lillà album, released on KRAAK end of last year, sees her contemplative compositions get stripped down to their bare elements. On the edge of introspection and repetition, her musical efforts brim with endless poetic possibility, in which soft-spoken melodics and harmonics lead the way, evoking vast microcosms of beauty and affect.

Pangea‘s DJing is all about the search for resonance, allowing also for philosophical, political and societal reflection. Eclectic by nature and choice, his sets touch upon electronica, hip-hop and trip-hop, industrial, rock, jazz elements and loose dub beats. He seeks harmony and disharmony in equal measure.
