Meakusma has been asked to participate in the Fifty Lab festival in Brussels. Since 2019, Fifty Lab has aimed to feature upcoming artists performing in a variety of venues in the centre of Brussels. We have invited NikNak for the occasion. She will be performing on the Thursday of the festival at the Beursschouwburg in Brussels.
 
NikNak is a DJ and turntablist, sound artist and composer, producer and much more. Hailing from Leeds, she is inspired by a wide range of artists and styles, forging a uniquely expressive and extremely musical kind of storytelling. She has released experimental albums, tracks and remixes on Come Play With Me, Kynant Records, OTONO and Reel Long Overdub. Her 2020 album Bashi was critically acclaimed. Her 2022 album Chasing Solitude was recorded live at the at the Deliaphonic festival in the UK and was described by The Wire magazine as creating “a narrative around a desire for solitude, manipulating sounds from space missions, samples of patois phrases, field recordings and heavy bass lines.” NikNak is a unique new voice in turntablism, focusing more on the textural possibilities of the practice, yet infusing everything with an impressive sensibility for pop and bass.
