Grimwig (Marionette – CAN) DJ
Grimwig, real name Alif Safi, runs the Toronto-based Marionette label. Defining Marionette as a label for electronic and electroacoustic music, Grimwig plays DJ sets intent on avoiding club music conservatism, instead focusing on creating a mesmerizing and shape-shifting wayward musical stance. Marionette has quickly become a cult label appealing to lovers and practitioners of the deeper end of dance music and groove.
Tomorrow’s edition of the Meakusma Outsiders residency of Kiosk Radio features a highly personal, mesmerising soundscape by German producer and DJ Midnightopera. All music used for this one-hour show was recorded by Midnightopera himself from 2013 to 2017. Midnightopera has released music on Workshop, Bio Rhythm and Meakusma and is a bit of an unsung hero of the deepest end of modern house music. As shown in this one hour, his music is miniaturist yet open-ended, focused on detail yet forgiving, soothing yet unafraid to be outspoken. All of us at Meakusma have always regarded Midnightopera as one of the most original and groundbreaking talents we have ever come across, this beautifully constructed compilation of tracks is ample proof of just that.
Tune in tomorrow to Kiosk Radio at 10AM CET (show is repeated at 10PM CET).

The musical universe of artist Lorenz Lindner is broad and his new mix for the Meakusma residency of the Outsiders Series on Brussels-Based Kiosk Radio is proof. Producing minimalist club music as Mix Mup, experimentally driven dance music with MM/KM and intimate, slightly off-kilter and abstract sound pieces as Molto, Lindner’s mix features some of the music that inspires his own productions. From Anthony Braxton to 2 Lone Swordsmen, to Susanne Brokesh and Dietrich Schönemann, Lindner shows his non-confrontational stance, resulting in a musical universe that dwells on subtlety, at times absurd reflection and crossing boundaries. His recent Centre De Rencontre album on Meakusma dwells in the beauty of the casual, conjuring up an improvised amalgam of synthesized sounds and amplified acoustic instrumentation.
