Barnt

Barnt is one third of Magazine, the label/depot/archive that “has caused quite a stir with its taut and precise yet richly complex output” (Add Void, London) since it was set up in 2010. Also being a core member of the collective Cologne Tape (other members include Crato, Jens-Uwe Beyer, Jörg Burger, The Field, Philipp Janzen of Von Spar et al.), Barnt is a key figure in the musical output of the label.
His debut EP “What Is A Number, That A Man May Know It?” from 2010 became an instant modern kosmische classic. Moreover, Boomkat oracled these tracks „could be killer DJ tools in the right hands“. And this is exactly what happened, with the (now sold out) record being played by the more sophisticated Djs including Four Tet, Dixon, Caribou, Finn Johannsen, Optimo, etc.
The surprising dancefloor effectiveness of his tracks that are at the same time so freewheeling makes more sense if you know the “pre-Magazine” Barnt. A long time dance DJ who has shaped his technical skills in the scratch scene some time ago, Barnt has been known to Rheinish insiders as one of the most original and open-minded dance Djs from the area. With unbelievable contributions coming up from Magazine, Cómeme and Mule, Kompakt booking is thrilled to add Barnt to its roster!
