Tolouse Low Trax LIVE
Tolouse Low Trax LIVE (Kreidler, Karaoke Kalk, SD Records - GER)

The man in the crowd is a wonderer with relaxed habits. In him the course of things and movement of the city is reproduced. The Düsseldorfer Detlef Weinrich is such a man in the crows. Some one who is constantly listening to future winds through rushes of the past. He loves the night for its free will. And his music tells stories about it. You might know him as a member of the band Kreidler. As a solo artist he goes under the name Tolouse Low Trax. And he’s already got three Eps and two albums under his belt. His first solo album „Mask Talk“ thrives on a feathery beat frequency and cool new-wave-strength. His recently released piece „Corridor Plateau“, which appeared as a limited edition to accompany the exhibition „Corridor Plateau“ contains percussive electronics and Industrial sounding like its from the second industrial revolution. His third album „Jeidem Fall“, is also not from here. It sounds like music brought down to earth from the heavens. But its a dark cosmos in which there are only fleeting glimpses of light. All eight tracks were composed in a short space of time over the period of just a few months and fit together perfectly atmospherically. With a musical expressiveness that undoubtedly twists your emotions, „Jeidem Fall“ attacks the subconscious and clouds the mind. The drums have more movement that on „Mask Talk“. Along with the constant tapping of drumsticks goes melodical arpeggios dancing dark and dirty. At times longing vocals drift abstractly through the room, as on „Sa Seline“ or „Geo Scan“, without telling any obvious story.

Andrew Pekler LIVE
Andrew Pekler LIVE (Dekorder, Schoolmap, Kranky - GER)

Andrew Pekler was born in the U.S.S.R. and immigrated with his family to the U.S. at the age of six. He grew up in Philadelphia and later in Monterey, California. In the mid-1990s he moved to Heidelberg, Germany to study and there developed an interest in electronic music.

Pekler's approach to music-making and sound has evolved considerably over the years but has always remained in essence an experiment with found materials, be they samples, instruments or genre conventions. His continual aim is to produce material that is equally as evocative and sensuously resonant as it is challenging.

In numerous recordings and albums, Pekler has delved into micro-managed electronic evocations of half-remembered nocturnal jazz and has pitted the harmonic and rhythmic properties of sampled string instruments and mixing desk feedback against each other with weirdly sonorous results. He has composed an entire album by starting from short text descriptions of what the tracks should sound like, inspired by the blurbs found on library records and he has electronically investigated the emotional sweep and grain of so-called easy listening music.

In recent years Pekler has developed an interest in video - often in combination with music - applying the same experimental approach to found footage and primitive video techniques as he does to samples and synthesizers.

Andrew Pekler has also composed music for film, dance and theater and has played concerts in Europe, N.America, Japan, China and Australia.

Helena Hauff
Helena Hauff (Golden Pudel, Default Network - GER)

Helena Hauff is an up and coming DJ from Hamburg where she often plays astonishing sets at the Golden Pudel Club. Running a night called Birds And Other Instruments, with guest Djs such as Luke Eargoggle, Morphosis, Schmerzlabor or Mick Wills, her sound can't be nailed down easily as she wanders between styles as light-footed as other people change their clothes. Dirty Acid, Chicago, Electro and Wave mixed in an obsessive way that you won't hear that often.

Sohrab LIVE
Sohrab LIVE (Touch - IR)

Sohrab was born in Tehran in 1984. He was seven when the Iran-Iraq war ended. His name, from an old poem called 'Shahname', means 'rouge water', which can also mean 'blood'. He started a punk band with his brother and a friend, which lasted about two years before splitting. Sohrab is totally isolated in Iran, with little or no connection to what is happening there. He is currently stateless, applying for political asylum in Germany.

In Iran, 70% of the population is under 30 years old, and this explosive social mix is causing trouble. Sohrab performed one illegal gig which was broken up by the police. He then took to performing alone in a desert or other place of wilderness. Various sound files were sent out before he himself left for Germany in late 2010. These files were assembled to form his first album, A Hidden Place, which reflects his inner cultural isolation.
